Background

Zavier joined Capital Chambers in 2024. He was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2021 after successfully completing his pupillage under the supervision of Mr. Stanley Siu, Mr. Kay Chan, Mr. Vod Chan, and Mr. Tony Li SC.

Zavier has a broad practice in general civil matters and is constantly instructed to attend hearings in both the District Court and the High Court. Just recently Zavier completed a High Court Civil trial (as a junior counsel) concerning a Money Lender Action.

Zavier is currently developing a practice in the area of Commercial law and Company law, in particular matters related to winding up. He is constantly instructed to appear and advise on those matters.

Besides his civil practice, Zavier also has experience in matters regarding Death Inquest, a very niche area of law in Hong Kong, for example, Zavier has acted as a junior counsel at a death inquest hearing that lasted for 65 days concerning a high-profile industrial building fire incident that took away the lives of two firefighters in June 2016.

While his practice is predominately on the civil side, Zavier maintains a practice in criminal matters as well. Zavier has been constantly instructed to advise clients on matters regarding criminal law and appeared for defendants in both Magistrate Courts and the District Court. His experience in criminal practice ranges from minor crimes like theft to complicating crimes like fraud and money laundering.

Selected Cases
  • New Finance Limited v Lo Siu Kong HCA 2761/2015. This is a debt recovery case concerning Money Lender Action in which Zavier as a junior represented the Plaintiff in trial.
  • Today Is Finance Limited v Tse Man Ngai [2023] HKCFI 2856. This is an O.14 summary judgment case where Zavier appealed the Master’s decision to a Judge and successfully overturned the Master’s decision to obtain judgment.
  • Re: Thomas Cheung (Deceased) & Samuel Hui (Deceased) CCDI 333 & 334/2016. This is a Death Inquest Hearing concerning a high-profile industrial building fire incident that took away the lives of two firefighters in June 2016 in which Zavier acted as a junior counsel for SC Storage.
